The British Beer & Pub Association, a trade association representing brewers and pubs, has warned that all restrictions must be removed on June 21 for all pubs to reopen and have a chance at survival.
The association estimated 45,000 pubs reopened this week but some 2,000 pubs remained closed. May 17 saw the easing of more restrictions with indoor venues being allowed to reopen across most of the UK, however the hospitality sector still faces restrictions compared to normal operating practices. Venues must ensure the one metre plus social distancing measures are in place, operate table service only, and ensure customers are wearing face coverings unless sat at a table indoors.
It is because of these restrictions that establishments that rely on patrons standing will potentially remain closed due to their limited floor space and lack of table service. The BBPA estimate around 5 percent (2,000) of pubs in the UK fall into this category.
They are urging the government to commit to lifting all restrictions including the removal of social distancing and to allow bar service to resume from June 21, so these venues can open once more. Â Â Â
