Post Scriptum is a collection of hand-painted porcelain pieces

Cassina, in collaboration with Ginori 1735, introduces the first collection by design studio Formafantasma – Post Scriptum, a unique collection of hand-painted porcelain objects. The collection was launched during the recent Salone del Mobile 2022.

Starting with the extensive Manifattura Ginori archives, the creative duo selected some of the most archetypal shapes and gave them a contemporary interpretation to fully enhance the individuality expressed by the master painters of this Florentine-made brand.

Formafantasma’s drawings become decorations on the porcelain, thanks to the know-how, skills and experience of the Ginori 1735 master painters.

“We wanted to work on decoration in a contemporary manner, highlighting the expressive ability of each master painter with the aim of interpreting their art through the instinctive gestures that set each piece apart.” Formafantasma

The uniqueness of the workmanship of this collection consists in the “graffito” decorations on biscuit porcelain that has been created with direct firing at 1400° C. The graffito is designed on the surface with a black pigment and then set at 1230° C.

The designs are entirely hand-drawn with a special ceramic chalk typically used to trace the outline of decorations on the porcelain. In this case, the master painter uses it to draw the final decoration rather than using it to create its borders. The strokes are therefore random and, as a result, each object is one-of-a-kind, both for its physical aspect and the emotional dexterity with which it is made.

The Post Scriptum collection includes a series of different-shaped vases, two boxes and a candleholder featuring six different motifs: a large or small lattice, a mixed or vertical sketch, a chequered design and a simple black stroke of the brush. Contemporary pieces that can stand alone or be combined to create graphic compositions. Each piece, numbered by the maestro who decorated it, bears the Cassina and Ginori 1735 logos.
