Denby has commissioned research looking at home life under lockdown, while also exploring the hobbies and interests here to stay in 2021. The results found:

  • Almost 1 in 3 want to consume less plastic and be kinder to the planet
  • 31 per cent plan on reducing food waste in 2021
  • Almost 1 in 5 will be making home improvements
  • one in 10 Brits want a better home office space
  • 36 per cent of Brits taking more time to enjoy nature in 2020

Greener living: Following months spent in lockdown, more considerate attitudes towards the environment have come to the fore, with 36 per cent of Brits taking more time to enjoy nature in 2020. The focus on sustainability and being kinder to the planet is a trend playing out in our home lives too, as in 2021 almost 1 in 3 (32 per cent) are resolving to consume less plastic, 31 per cent plan on changing their dining habits to avoid creating food waste and nearly 1 in 5 (19 per cent) are reducing their meat intake.

Hardworking home: Increased time at home has resulted in a better appreciation and enjoyment for home and garden spaces, as 33 per cent of Brits rate this newfound love as a positive to come out of lockdown living. Looking ahead, we’ll continue to see the value in creating calming and multifunctional areas at home with almost one third (29 per cent) decluttering, 1 in 5 (19 per cent) making home improvements and 1 in 10 (11 per cent) wanting to improve their home office space.

Home hobbies: Hobbies learnt in lockdown and enjoyed at home will continue in 2021; with one third of Brits (33 per cent) turning to a good book, 16 per cent continuing to improve cooking and baking skills and 20 per cent planning to spend more time in the kitchen than ever before, with 17 per cent trying to recreate their favourite restaurant dishes at home. Plus, in an attempt to make the most of our outdoor spaces, almost 1 in 5 (18 per cent) Brits plan on growing a vegetable garden.

Hayley Baddiley, Head of Brand at Denby says: “For many, the way we use our homes has changed dramatically over the last year, with more time spent at home resulting in a greater appreciation of our interior spaces. At Denby, we want to inspire everyone to make more thoughtful homeware choices, from gifting a loved-one to encouraging a newfound hobby or supporting more sustainable interiors in 2021.”
