Riedel’s Superleggero collection – launched this year – is a masterpiece of state-of-the-art technology.
Perfectly balanced and with the look and feel of a handmade glass. Each glass carries a grape-varietal specific code on the center of the base to identify the grape-variety. Comprised of the Superleggero Burgundy Grand Cru and the Bordeaux Grand Cru glasses, the series is described as premium machine-made. “Premium defines the advantage of a machine blown Riedel glass versus a hand-made glass. The difference lies within the precision,” Riedel says.
The Superleggero Burgundy Grand Cru glass is perfect to support the balance of fragility and fresh compact fruit in light-bodied wines.
This shape was one of the original ‘wine friendly’ glasses designed by ninth generation Claus J. Riedel. The wide tulip shape and slightly flared lip highlights the irresistible sweetness, whilst perfectly balancing the acidity and deemphasising the alcohol, to create a perfect picture of the wine.
Meanwhile, the Bordeaux Grand Cru glass is perfect for full-bodied, complex red wines that are high in tannin. The generous size of this glass allows the bouquet to develop fully, and smooths out the rough edges. It emphasises the fruit, playing down the bitter qualities of the tannin, and allows wines to achieve balance.
