The Iittala brand has launched a new tabletop collection for SS 25. Solare, the third collection designed under the creative direction of Janni Vepsäläinen, is a collection where light, form and craft converge.
The new SS25 collection, launched on 21 March in all Iittala stores, online and at selected retailers, and explores the concept of Nordic light and how it plays on the senses and influences emotional and physical behaviours.
Creative director Janni Vepsäläinen approaches each seasonal collection through a conceptual creative lens and continues to evolve the brand’s progressive design narrative, whilst maintaining a sensitivity to Iittala’s design heritage and extensive archive. Solare takes inspiration from the long periods of daylight experienced during midsummer in Finland, the collection captures the sensorial experiences of this unique period of transformative light by creating an interplay between shadow and brilliance. Midsummer is a magical time in the Nordics when the captivating summer light creates a feeling of freedom and discovery with its mesmerising intensity.
Tableware is a growing category for Iittala and the launch of Solare complements the brand’s existing tableware collections from some of Finland’s most renowned designers, including Kaj Franck, who designed the internationally acclaimed Teema range. First introduced in 1952, Teema embodies the progressive post war design sensibility and appreciation of modernity – the collection is a leading example of modernist design principles with purpose dictating form and products admired for their design integrity and functional purity.
Building on these principles Solare is designed by Harri Koskinen who joined Janni’s creative team at the end of last year as design development Lead. Guided by Janni’s creative vision, Harri has thoughtfully developed Janni’s conceptual thinking and designed an extensive new range of glass and ceramic tableware with a modern sensibility. Through Harri’s design lens and considered visual language the collection is an example of expert curation and the art of simplicity, shapes and forms remain resolutely minimalistic with every surface detail included for a reason. Each product is designed with contemporary living in mind and has a distinct purpose, with functionality and practicality guiding the design choices.
With its dynamic and vibrant colour palette Solare embraces the future, creating a sense of optimism and perfection felt across a collection that also includes glass art, stainless steel accessories, textiles and glass interiors pieces which include new colourways of core collections chosen to complement Solare, including limited edition turquoise Alvar Aalto vases. Solare celebrates the precision of industrial production whilst pushing the boundaries of contemporary design – it’s a visually powerful collection where futurism meets quality manufacturing and artisanal expertise, offering endless table setting possibilities and lifestyle choices.
