Continuing ARTĚL’s longstanding history of collaborative projects with world-class artists, FLIGHTS OF FANTASY is a special collection designed by American glass artist Amber Cowan. Best known for her unique approach to creating sculptural works consisting entirely of vintage industrial pressed glass, Cowan’s work can be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Art and Design in New York, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the RISD Museum.
This unique collection is the result of Cowan and ARTĚL founder / director Karen Feldman being longstanding admirers of each other’s work. They began corresponding over social media in 2020, and when Feldman eventually proposed the idea for a collaboration, Cowan readily agreed.
Consisting of four motifs designed by Cowan, the FLIGHTS OF FANTASY collection can be purchased either as a set or individually. Each design is exclusively available in two shapes – Double Old Fashioned and Small Tumbler – and a single vibrant colour:
- BUTTERFLIES FEAST IN THORNY VINES (Blush)
- DOLPHINS IN SKY WITH PEARLS (Aqua)
- HUMMINGBIRDS FEAST IN RIBBONS AND PEARLS (Lilac)
- SNAIL WITH MUSHROOMS AND PEARLS (Peridot)
When creating the collection, Cowan said she wanted each motif to be “active and animated,” so that whether the depicted subject is “crawling, flying, or swimming across the surface of the glass, it will feel alive in the user’s hand.”
Cowan also requested that the collection not be offered as a limited edition, in order to make it more accessible to a wider audience of ARTĚL fans and her many followers.
