Alessi has elevated its festive offering with a new Nika Zupanc designed collection called Delight.
The series of Christmas-themed objects, interpreting traditional symbols such as the Christmas tree and the star, are made in the designer’s distinctive, trendy style. Inspired by classic Christmas iconography, which often features colours such as white, red and gold, the designer has created a collection comprising a selection of hand-blown glass baubles, a mug, a biscuit jar and a sweet jar. Dreamy objects whose original design language elicits a joyful dialogue between tradition and modernity.
The porcelain Morning Star mug has been hand-decorated using the decalcomania technique with an enamelled handle. Similarly, the biscuit jar and sweet jars, also in porcelain, has been decorated by hand with gold enamel. And finally, the collection’s glass baubles are hand-blown into shape.
“Each object from the collection is inspired by a visual characteristics from various Christmas narratives and forms that are the perceived as icons of the festive mood.
To draw the right background landscape to the Christmas mood, the Cookie jar and Bon Bon container resemble a shape of a snowy pine trees and as such take their inspiration from a retro style holiday decoration that become a widely spread hit in 1960: vintage ceramic trees. The mug complements the collection with that extra spark, caused by a cloud of golden stars that wraps its body and – as in any story worth reading – an unexpected twist: a big gold handle in the shape of a star itself,” says the designer, Nika Zupanc.
