Costa Nova is celebrating the opening of its first store outside of Portugal. From the vitalness of choosing the right location to the importance of merchandising and potential retail expansion plans, Tableware International speaks with Miguel Casal, CEO, Costa Nova Industria, about the brand’s new Madrid retail unit.
Costa Nova has opened its first store outside of Portugal, reaffirming its commitment to the Spanish market by choosing the Spanish city of Madrid. This new location marks another step in Costa Nova’s international expansion strategy, strengthening its proximity to clients, specifiers, and professionals in the Spanish market, in a space designed to inspire and foster connections.
Under the Costa Nova brand, Grestel operates three stores in Portugal, located in Aveiro, Porto and Lisbon, as well as a factory outlet in Vagos, close to the production facilities. The newest addition to their retail arm opened in June, with members of the press and professionals from architecture, interior design, and hospitality, in attendance, all getting the opportunity to experience Costa Nova’s unique vision for contemporary table settings, not only in the Iberian market but around the world. The retail unit has been developed for both the retail market, and professional clients, with Miguel Casal, CEO, Costa Nova Industria, explaining to Tableware International that expanding into the Spanish market, more specifically Madrid, was a “natural step” given the strong cultural, geographic and commercial proximity between Portugal and Spain.
“Spain is already one of our key export markets, with a strong appreciation for design-led tableware and Mediterranean lifestyle values that align closely with our brand. Opening a physical space in Madrid allows us to deepen that relationship, move beyond distribution and create a direct, immersive brand experience. It also reflects a strategic commitment to a market we consider crucial, where we have been present for many years, and where we now want to further strengthen the brand’s positioning and visibility among both end consumers and professional clients.”
